VENICE ARCHITECTURE BIENNALE 2025
LOCATION | VENICE, ITALY
STATUS | DESIGN COMPETITION - UNBUILT
As part of a multidisciplinary collaborative between transnational Filipinos, "Between the Lines" invites guests to explore our built environment and how its lines define one's sense of self, community, and culture.
Architecture, Urban Planning, and Participatory Art intersect within our proposal as it explores the Filipino culture of Migration. Its context converges the informal and formal fabrics of the city as it asks its participants to reflect upon one’s right to self-determination and identity. Glimpses in-between allow for dynamic perspectives in the exhibit. The way we migrate within and out of our own communities introduce to us new views and cultural identities, further developing one's identity. Guests are invited to participate as they explore the exhibit, constructing their own sense of self with the materials provided. The end result is an organically growing city guided by the lines that form our built environment.Broken down into modules, the “Between the Lines” proposal takes into consideration the logistics of migrating materials across continents.
Automotive painted metal louvers define and emphasize the verticality of the experience, complimented by the lines that continue across the floor and ceiling. What happens between borders offers an opportunity for dialogue and discussion as we ask ourselves, “Who deserves space in our cities?”
This is a Curatorial Proposal submitted to the Open Call for Entries to the Philippine Pavilion for the Venice Architecture Biennale 2025.
